Are you Red-y?

Hello There!

Sometimes pulling off a red lip is difficult to do, but it's also tricky to figure out which shade looks best on your skin tone. So I figured I would make pulling off a bold, bright lip a little more easy by sharing what shades of red would look best on what skin tones. I don't think that one shade would not look good on someone, or that you cannot wear a shade, but these are the colors I would recommend for your skin tone. With all of these colors, remember to use a lip liner so the color lasts longer and does not feather or bleed.

If you have a cooler undertone in your skin, I would recommend a red with a cooler undertone to match. Lots of girls with fair skin have a pink undertone to the complexion, so I would choose a red with a pink undertone. I know this sounds crazy, but a red with a pink undertone looks fabulous on girls with a pink undertone to their skin. It will look fresh and fun, and won't be too dark or harsh.

On the other hand, if you have a warmer undertone to your skin, I would choose a lip product with a warm tone to it. Girls who have an olive skin tone, for example, should go with with a lipstick with an orange undertone to accentuate the warm tones in their skin.

If you have a very dark or chocolate-y complexion, I would choose a jewel-tone lipstick. Anything that is too light may wash you out or may look ash-y on your lips. Rich lip colors will also bring out the rich tones in your skin and look really lovely.

However, if you are in the shops and want a neutral toned lipstick, a lip product with a blue undertone will look good on just about anyone. A blue-toned red will be light enough for pale-skinned girls, but so light that it will wash out a darker-skinned girl's complexion. The blue undertones in a neutral red lipstick will also make your teeth look super white and gorgeous.

I love how red lips make me feel. With a bright lip on, I feel confident a fun. But for some, a bright red lip is too much. So for those who are apprehensive about wearing a bold shade of red, I would recommend a sheer wash of color, like the Revlon lip butters or the Korres lip butters. Either one will give you a sheer wash of color without overwhelming your look.

What is your favorite way to wear a red lip?

wish, want, want | etsy #6

Hello There!

I flipped through the ol' pages of Etsy again, and fell in love with a few quirky and cute pieces that I thought I would share with you.

LINK

I love this quirky kitty scarf. I have been looking for a cat scarf for a long time, and this one is a bright coral shade with cute cats under street lights. I think it's a fun piece with a lot of character that can transition well from summer to fall.

LINK
This "fish bone" bracelet is such a cool idea. I like that it is not obviously a fish bone bracelet, yet it looks like a fish bone when you look a little closer. It's also a dainty piece, so I can easily stack it on top of my rose gold watch and other gold pieces.

LINK
I have a few turquoise rings, but I can never have too many! I like this one because it has a floral design on the band and it is smaller than my other turquoise rings. This ring comes in a million different sizes, so you can get the perfect size for you, and pair it with black or lavender clothing, like I like to do.

LINK
This bag is a beauty. I have one or two other Dooney bags, and I wear them non-stop because they have lasted for ages and their wear gives them more character. I like this bag in particular because it has a strap, so it can be worn across the body or on your arm. Plus, it is super roomy, so you can fit just about anything in it! I love big bags. This store also supplies all kinds of bags from Dooney, from tote to backpack styles.
This geometric black necklace is cool because it is a short necklace with a "choker" type fit. It is such a classic piece because black and gold works with just about everything. I also like that it is short, so it will not hang awkwardly across tops. It is slightly expensive for a necklace, but I would get so much use out of such a classic piece.

I love all of these pieces because they all have a bit of character that makes them quirky and fun, yet still classic. Quirky yet classic is sort of my fashion taste, so I would get tons of wear out of all of these pieces.

Have you found anything on Etsy that you just love?

Pink Pout

Hello There!

I have now moved on from the mauve lip, and I am now obsessed with bright pink lips! Here are some my favorites:

Rimmel #06::

This is a bright pink shade with a hint of coral. I love wearing this shade because its a fun color that makes me look quite tan. The only problem I have with this color is sometimes it looks a bit funny if I am very pale, so I find that this color looks really lovely in the summer. This range of lipsticks is also very pigmented and creamy, and it wears beautifully, so by the end of the day it does not look patchy.

Covergirl Temptress::

I love this shade because it is a deep, rich fuchsia color that almost looks like a berry. I love wearing this on nights out because it makes me feel like a movie star! This lipstick is also so creamy and rich, but it does not feel greasy. When I want a look with a deep pink lip, I always grab this shade.

Wet N Wild 521A (Fuchsia with Blue Pearl)::

This lipstick is so cool looking! In the tube it looks a bit scary, but on the lips it looks like a bright pink with a pearl finish. The blue pearl is also not noticeable, but it makes your teeth look more white. This lipstick is creamy and pigmented, and it is only one dollar! This has also been named a dupe for MAC's "Show Orchid," so if you want a similar shade but don't want to spend all the money, this shade is a really great option.

Clinique Pudgy Peony::

This chubby stick is perfect to slap on when you do not have the time to put on a lipstick. This chubby stick is also surprisingly long lasting, so the sheer shade only needs to reapplied a few times throughout the day, and even after a few hours it leaves a pink stain on your lips. I reach for this when I want to wear a pink lip without needing a mirror.

I love wearing bright pinks because it gives a twist on a classic pinup look. Clean skin, cat-eye liner, and a bright pink lip creates a fun look that takes little time and always look polished.

What are some of your favorite pink shades?

A Review | Maybelline Fit Me Blusher

Hello There!

I have a new review for you all today on a product that has mixed reviews. The Maybelline Fit Me blusher and bronzer range is considered to be a really bad collection, but I thought I would add my two cents on the blushers. I have the shade deep coral.

I bought this color because it matches the shade that I naturally blush to, a deep rose-y shade, with a finish that has sheen, not shimmer. The product itself is somewhat dry- not soft like some of the other drugstore blushers offered. The pigmentation, however, is actually quite nice. While it is not very saturated color, it still creates a nice flush on your cheeks and also adds a subtle glow.

Overall, I like this blusher because it is a light color that I will apply when I want a natural look or want to balance a smoky eye or a bright lip with a sheer wash on my cheeks. While it may not be as saturated as some other shades in the drugstore, if you are starting out in "the world of makeup" I would recommend this color because you cannot really overdo it.

I won't buy another blush from this range, but I like it all the same.

What is your favorite "my cheeks but better" blusher?

Save or Splurge? | Lavender Shadow

Hello There!

I thought I would do another "save or splurge" on one of my favorite colors of shadow- lavender. It is one of my favorite colors to wear year round, because it adds color to the face and brightens the eyes. But, if you buy the wrong one they can be sheer and flak-y. So, is it worth it to buy high end or drugstore shadows? I will rate each product on a scale of A+ to F.

Drugstore::

Maybelline Expert Wear: Twilight Rays-

This kit contains eight shadows, two of which are lavender shadows. One is a more icy shade, while the other has a more mauve-toned, and both are very frosty. The product itself it pigmented, but the problem lies in the formula. They are soft, almost too soft; they come off a bit flaky. When you pack them on the lid, however, they are workable. I would give them C+.

Rimmel Glam Eyes: Fever-

This trio consists of three shades of lavender, from an almost white shade to a deep lavender. These, unlike the Maybelline shades, have a more matte finish, which is why the formula is so chalky. The formula is dry and flakes off very easily. The trio is difficult to work with. I would give this product a D-.

High-end::

Jemma Kidd Hi-Design Eye Colour: Sashay-

Ugh, I love this shade. It is so soft and pigmented, however, it is not as pigmented as some of the other lavender shadows I have found. I would use my finger to apply this product to get a concentrated look on the lid. This lavender shadow is more cool-toned, and has a shimmer finish, but nothing super-frosty. I really like this product, so I would give it a B+.

Stila: Charm-

I saved the best for last! This shadow is amazing. It is so soft and pigmented, and has a light shimmer finish. Surprisingly, the shadow is not that shimmer-y, but it is not flaky at all. The coolest part about this shadow is that it is a mid-tone lavender shade with blue and silver iridescent finely-milled glitter. You could wear a light wash for everyday, or pack on the color for a cool party look. This is the most expensive shadow of the bunch, but it is so worth it. I would give this shadow an A!

Overall, I think if you want a great shadow, it would be better to splurge on one or two fabulous high-end shades, like the ones I have mentioned.

I am sure I will find some amazing lavender shadows at the drugstore at some point, but for now I say that high-end shadows win!

What's your favorite lavender shadow?
